About

Shah has been painting since childhood. As a boy he loved going to painting classes, and throughout his school years he filled countless pages with drawings made purely from imagination.

As a young adult in Tehran, he learned realistic painting and drawing from Amir Rad. The training gave him a solid technical foundation, but also a constraint that was hard to shake: the compulsion to paint only from references. It took ten years away from painting before he finally overcame it.

Today he paints freely and intuitively. Almost every day he draws on his iPad, a visual journal and a form of self-reflection on whatever is happening in his life. When he wants to explore one of these drawings in color, he takes it onto a large canvas. Alongside his paintings and drawings, he has created his own tarot deck, Tarot des Fleurs.
